What is
PC/104?
PC/104 is a compact format for data acquisition and control. PC/104 modules
are essentially ISA Bus cards, repackaged into a 3.8" x 3.9" format. The bus
used for PC/104 is the ISA bus specified by IEEE-P996, with a few minor changes,
such as: self-stacking bus, which eliminates expensive backplane pin and socket bus connectors, for improved reliability
reduced bus drive (4mA) to minimize circuitry and power consumption
PC/104 modules are available offering a range of functions including: Complete PC-compatible motherboards
Analog and Digital I/O Video: VGA, LCD, EL, Frame Grabbers Networks: Ethernet, CAN bus, ARCNET
Drive controllers: FDD, IDE HDD, SCSI
ISA Bus is the name for plug-in (slot) cards compatible with the original
IBM PC/XT and newer AT computers. ISA Bus cards are the most widely used
data acquisition and control boards available. The specifications for ISA Bus
cards are set forth in IEEE-P996. The specification allows two types of
cards, XT (8-bit) and AT (16-bit).
ISA Bus cards are available with a wide range of functions:
